The Big Book Online

Alcoholics Anonymous should remain forever nonprofessional, but our service centers may employ special workers.

If a person pitches in a couple of hours a week to clean, mop and straighten up, that twelve step work.  If they are expected to do this four hours each day, that's a job.  Pay them.
